Overall this 1972 ElCamino was restored both mechanically and cosmetically to an extremely high standard.īased on the Chevelle platform, the El Camino re-started production in 1964 known as a “coupe utility”. An aftermarket radio was fitted, but many would rather listen to the beautiful exhaust tone. They were then recovered with black vinyl. The seats were removed from the car and all broken springs and padding were replaced. It has since received some updating and repairs to make sure it can handle even triple-digit heat. The paint on this 1972 Chevrolet ElCamino SS is in great condition and shows well.Ī special feature on this ElCamino is that it features the factory air conditioning the car was originally equipped with. All four fenders were replaced with parts sourced from the southwest. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a strong Turbo-Hydra-Matic 400 automatic transmission. Both a Summit Racing HEI ignition and Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor were installed to further aid in performance and drivability. While many might fear about burning their legs, the exhaust pipes only get warm, not hot, at idle. The exhaust is routed out the side through Summit Racing headers and side-exit exhaust pipes. When restored, the heads and camshaft were reworked to allow the engine to run smoothly with current gasoline standards. The engine code stamping correctly identifies this engine as being an LS3 produced at GM's Tonawanda, New York, engine plant in 1972, though it has not been confirmed as the original engine. This 1972 Chevrolet ElCamino is powered by a 402Ci V8. It was restored to become a wonderful weekend car for any car enthusiast.
